Scope and Contents
The William Allen papers (1913-1980) consist of some printed material concerning William Allen (1849-1928), an architect, and microfilmed architectural drawings, mainly of the Layton and Kaysville, Utah, areas. Included with the printed material are a list of drawings by Allen, an invitation, and a pamphlet.
Pamphlet, including a biography of Allen and a list of buildings designed by him; invitation to opening of First National Bank in Layton; and an inventory of Allen's drawings in private possession. Microfilm from the collection is located in the Manuscripts Division microfilm case. There are a total of 8 rolls of microfilm. 6 of those are duplicate copies.

Biographical Sketch
Born in London on 1 January 1849, William Allen left Europe at age twelve for America. He learned the mason's trade, then took up drafting and building. He completed a correspondence course in architecture and graduated with high honors. In 1874 he married Mary Simms and they had seven children. William Allen died on 11 October 1928.
