Clawson was born in Salt Lake City a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) Church. The Henry Chariton and Alberta Maria Larsen Jacobs papers (1876-1969) contain diaries, correspondence, religious documents, and various other documents. Henry Jacobs was the manager of a mercantile business and also the owner of a mortuary. Alberta Jacobs founded the Twentieth Century Club in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, and served in the community.
