Scope and Contents
The Matthew Frederick and Claire Wilcox Noall papers (1805-1970s) consist of the Noalls' personal and professional records, as well as records passed on to them by their ancestors. The major part of the collection is composed of products of Claire's literary activities, mainly her biography of Willard Richards. Her research notes, including excerpts of diaries, cover a wide variety of early Mormon topics, in addition to information on the Richards family. Correspondence also makes up a large portion of the collection.

Biographical Sketch
Matthew and Claire Noall were a prominent Utah couple who contributed to the educational, literary, religious, and civic life of the state.
Claire Augusta Wilcox Noall was born 16 August 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles Frederick and Elizabeth Du Fresne Stevenson Wilcox. She was raised in Utah and became a school teacher. She studied journalism at the LDS College and the University of Utah leading her to write numerous articles on history, tales of adventure, descriptions of her travels and poems. She also wrote two books, The Intimate Disciple and Surely the Night. Claire Noall died in 1971.
Matthew Frederick Noall was born 13 June 1890 to Matthew and Elizabeth Laker Noall in Salt Lake City, Utah. His family moved to Hawaii for three years, then back to Utah. Matthew received degrees from the University of Utah and the University of California, Berkeley. He was a teacher, principal, and acting superintendent in various Utah school districts. Matthew Noall died in 1977.
