The George Henry Dern letter (1935) is from Dern to his wife. At the time of the letter, Dern (1872-1936) was serving as secretary of war under then president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. George Henry Dern was born in Nebraska, but migrated to Utah to be the bookkeeper for his father's Mercur Gold Mining and Milling Co. He was known as an efficient mining manager and innovator. Abstract
The Charles N. Strevell papers (1894-1943) contain correspondence, family history, essays, speeches, publications, art work, posters, pamphlets, brochures, news clippings, and other related materials. Strevell was one of the organizers of Strevell-Paterson Hardware Company and was the president for many years before his retirement in 1912. He became well known for his essay, "Dinosauropodes,"" which was published several times during the 1930s.
