Biographical Note

George Henry Dern was born in Nebraska, but migrated to Utah to be the bookkeeper for his father's Mercur Gold Mining and Milling Co. He was known as an efficient mining manager and innovator. He was also involved in ranching, dairying, public utilities, and banking, as well as politics, serving in Utah's state senate (1915-1923) and as governor (1925-1933), both for two terms.
