Betty M. Madsen was a graduate of the University of Utah with degrees in French and linguistics. She was the co-author of several publications with her husband, Brigham D. Madsen and served as thesis editor at the University of Utah in the 1970s.

The Fern Smoot Taylor family papers (1854-1856, 1901) consist of a glossary and account book, by Isaac Bullock. Included in the collection are letters written to LDS missionary Abraham Owen Smoot III as a serially numbered round-robin letter from family members.
