Scope and Contents
The John E. McKendrick papers (1942-1958) are comprised of McKendrick's World War II diary, various research materials and five linguistic notebooks. Box 1 contains McKendrick's 1942-1943 diary, one letter and assorted research notes. Two linguistic notebooks can be found in box 2.

Biographical Sketch
John E. (Edward) McKendrick received an M.A. in English from the University of Utah in 1949. His thesis was entitled "Some Aspects of the Metamorphosis of Strong Verbs in English." He was a professor of English at Brigham Young University.
