Scope and Contents

The Mary Muir photograph collection contains copy prints, negatives, and slides related to Muir's writing and research into artist LeConte Stewart. Folders 1-3, 7-8, 10 and 12 contain copy negatives, copy prints, and copy scans; while the original material likely dated from between 1900-1950, the reproductions were likely made between the 1990s-2010s. These reproductions were created by photographing original material with either a film or digital camera.

Biographical / Historical

Mary Margaret Morgan (1921-2019) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She earned a BA and MA in History at the McCune School of Music and the University of Utah, where she taught Art History until her retirement. An active member of the community, she served as the President of the Utah Symphony Guild, and was the first woman member of the Symphony's Board of Directors, as well as an influential founder of the Bountiful Art Center. She dedicated much of her life to researching Utah artist LeConte Stewart, and became one of the foremost authorities on him and his work. She was married to Edward Wallace Muir from 1943 until his death in 2007. Mary Margaret Morgan Muir died in September 2019.
