Scope and Contents

The Art Gallenson slide collection was loaned to the library to scan befor eit was donated to the archive. The scanning order is the order of the physical collection. Some sets of this collection are thematic and consist of slides taken at different times, from different outdoor trips. In the digital version of this collection, found here , the slides have been assigned titles that group together photos from the same trip, event, or period. Exstensive editing done by Ken Rockwell

Biographical Note

Arthur Sidney Gallenson (1943-2014) was a pioneer of modern commercial river running in the west. He was a boatman for Western River Expeditions in its first year, and with Ron Smith, Art helped create Grand Canyon River Expeditions. Art became a commercial pilot and subsequent to his river running career was Chief Pilot and Manager of Lake Mead Air in Boulder City, Nevada. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, attended East High and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Geology. Art passed away unexpectedly in 2014 having endured a 21 years battle with Parkinson's disease. Abstract

The Art Gallenson slide collection consists mostly of slides by Art Gallenson and a few color photographs of Gallenson's wedding. These slides are from around the western part of the North American continent, especially areas of the Southwestern United States.
