Biographical Note

Robert Lee Miller was born on April 1, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry and Frances Miller. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1968. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Miller served a mission in the South German (Munich) Mission from 1969 to 1971. After returning to Salt Lake City, Miller attended the University of Utah, where he received a BA in History in 1975 and a BA in Philosophy in 1979. In 1983, he received an MA in the History of Science from John Hopkins University. In 1980, he married Emma J. White Dugal.

Between 1983 to 1993, Miller worked at Special Collections and Archives at the J. Willard Marriott Library of the University of Utah. In this position, Miller helped to develop the Utah Science, Engineering, and Medical Archives. While holding this position, Miller also taught as an Adjunct Instructor at the Institute of Religion for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Between 1993 and 1996, Miller contributed to the Western Science History Association. In 1996, he began working as a company representative and technical specialist for Desktop Visual Products, a position he held until his death. Miller had numerous research interests in the fields of science, religion, creation, and evolution. For twenty years, he researched the life and work of Henry Eyring (1901-1981), who was a chemist and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Robert L. Miller died on January 4, 2011.

Abstract

Robert L. Miller (1950-2011) was a researcher into the history of science and religion who worked for the Marriott Library Special Collections and Archives between 1983 and 1993. This collection contains photograph prints and copy prints collected by Miller during the course of his research into Henry Eyring and the history of science and religion.
