Biographical Note
Idaho native Ken Sleight began running rivers in Utah in the 1950s. After serving in the Korean War and working as a bookeeper for Firestone Tires, Sleight relocated his family to Southern Utah and started his own rafting company, Wonderland Expeditions. Inspired in part by the flooding of his beloved Glen Canyon, Sleight became a vocal environmental activist intent on protecting the Southern Utah landscapes he loved from further development. In 1967, Sleight met and befriended fellow activist and author Edward Abbey and may have provided the inspiration for the Monkey Wrench Gang character, Seldom Seen Smith. Sleight currently owns the Pack Creek Ranch ourside Moab, Utah.
