Biographical Note

Richard L. Stimson (1925-2014) was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Stimson matured during the Great Depression, and attended the University of Utah. He transferred to Stanford University to attend the Army Specialized Training Program, and shortly after was drafted into the 100th Infantry Division. Private First Class Stimson, a member of the 398th Regiment Fox Company, was severely wounded in France. Stimson earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star in honor of his sacrifice and service. After the war, Stimson excelled in both the insurance and investment industries, creating a large estate without any family to pass it on to. Upon his death, Stimson completed a life of service by bequeathing one of the largest individual donations to the University of Utah's Health Sciences.
