Scope and Contents

The August H. Mihsfeldt papers (1940s) consist of an unpublished manuscript of Mihsfeldt's English translation of Historia de las Indias de Nueva-Espana y islas de Tierra Firme, a 1951 edition of Diego Duran's history. Diego Duran (ca. 1537-1588) was born in Seville, Spain, and taken at an early age to Mexico, where he was raised in the Tetzcoco district. He became a Dominican friar and wrote about the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs.

Biographical Sketch

August H. Mihsfeldt was raised in Colorado. He received an M.A. from the department of modern languages at the University of Utah in 1926. He married fellow-student, Gertrude Wiebe (1901-1989), and the couple made their home in the Sacramento, California, area.
