The Wallace A. Goates sheet music collection (1890-1905) were recovered by the University of Utah's Theater Department from Goates's estate after his death. The music compositions were used by the Salt Lake Theater around the turn of the century.

Biographical Note

Wallace Goates (1907-1996) was active in the theater arena, producing, writing, directing, and acting in many plays. He graduated from the University of Utah and received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. In 1937, he joined the University of Utah faculty, teaching speech and theater. He subsequently branched out to the field of communication disorders, lecturing to various departments at the university concerning this subject. Goates founded the Speech and Hearing Clinic as well as the Special Education Department at the university. He also developed the first national preschool for hearing impaired children.

The Wallace A. Goates sheet music collection (1890-1905) were recovered by the University of Utah's Theater Department from Goates's estate after his death. The music compositions were used by the Salt Lake Theater around the turn of the century. Goates joined the University of Utah faculty in 1937 teaching speech and theater. He subsequently became active in the field of communications disorders, founding the Speech and Hearing Clinic and the Special Education Department at the University of Utah as well as the first national preschool for hearing impaired children.
