The Glenn M. Vernon papers (circa 1940-1989) contain research files, drafts, and other preparatory material for Vernon's scholarly writing and teaching, as well as documents providing information on his academic career. Materials included in the collection reflect Vernon's work researching, writing about, and teaching on the sociological aspects of death, religion, and symbolic interaction, with his main emphasis being on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Biographical Sketch
Glenn M. Vernon (born 1920) graduated from Brigham Young University in 1950 with a master's degree in sociology after completing a bachelor's degree there in 1947. He then went on to graduate from Washington State University in 1953 with a Ph.D. in sociology. Vernon was a professor at the University of Utah, as well as head of its sociology department, during the 1970s.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Boxes 1-28 were donated in 1995. Boxes 29-136 were donated in 1996. Box 137 was donated in 2001.
