Organizational History
Taxpayers for Utah was a non-profit organization that had one purpose--to defeat the tax limitation initiatives on the 1988 general election ballot. Members consisted of any person, corporation, institution, or organization who endorsed or donated money to the organization. Initiative A, the People's Tax and Spending Limitations Amendment, limited business and residential property taxes. Initiative B, the People's Tax Reduction Act, along with repealing the 1987 tax increases, lowered current income tax table percentages. Initiative C, the Utah Family Choice in Education Act, provided tax credits against income taxes for expenses of private schools. These initiatives were overwhelmingly defeated at the polls in November 1988.
