Scope and Contents

The Lester Andrews Hubbard folklore collection is comprised of Hubbard's collected stories and folklore about Utah. Included are items on legendary characters, pioneer life, polygamy, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Indian relations, Indian legends and tales, songs and ballads, games, riddles, and customs. Some foreign folklore material is also included.

Biographical Sketch

Lester Andrews Hubbard was born on 8 May 1892 in Willard, Box Elder County, Utah, to Joseph and Sally Ann Hubbard. He married Barbara Larsen in 1919. Hubbard was a veteran of World War I, attended Sorbonne University in Paris, and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1920. He received his master's degree from the University of Chicago in 1925 and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Hubbard was a faculty member at the University of Utah for thirty-two years.

The Lester Andrews Hubbard folklore collection is comprised of Hubbard's collected stories and folklore about Utah. Included are items on legendary characters, pioneer life, polygamy, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Indian relations, Indian legends and tales, songs and ballads, games, riddles, and customs. Some foreign folklore material is also included. Lester Hubbard (b. 1892) was a professor emeritus of the University of Utah English Department where he was a faculty member for thirty-two years.
