The Richard E. Westwood papers (1941-1971) consist of materials concerning his involvement as a prominent member of the United States mink industry. He was the found and major partner of the Westwood Mink Farm which thrived from 1941-1971 in West Jordan, Utah.

Biographical Note

Richard "Dick" Westwood gained an international reputation as an expert in all phases of the multi-million-dollar mink industry. He served as a director of EMBA National Mink Breeders Pelt Marketing Association for 8 years and president for two terms. He also served as vice president of The Fur Breeders Agricultural Cooperative, and president of The National Board of Fur Farm Organizations. Moreover, he served one term as president of The Mink Farmers Research Foundation, as well as chairman of the Health and Research Committee in charge of the Experimental Fur Farm and Laboratory. Later in life, Westwood developed an interest in the environment and river running and authored the book Rough-Water Man: Elwyn Blake's Colorado River Expeditions.
