Edward LaChapelle avalanche control video collection
The Edward LaChapelle avalanche control video collection (1950-1970) consists of films about avalanche danger, control and research at Utah ski areas and around the world. The collection also includes some of LaChapelle's home movies and other ski related footage. Edward LaChapelle was an American glaciologist, mountaineer, skier, author, and professor and a pioneer in Avalanche research, safety and forecasting.
Ski Utah audio-visual collection
The Ski Utah audio-visual collection consists largely of promotional films, videos and compact discs designed to attract tourists to Utah on behalf of the ski and snowboard industry. The collection also includes a some news stories related to Utah's ski industry. Ski Utah, Inc. is a marketing firm represnting the state's resorts and related service industries.
Suzy Harris Rytting audio-visual ski collection
The Suzy Harris Rytting audio-visual ski collection (1968-1991) consists of films and videos related to Rytting's career as a competetive skier, coach, and ski professional.
Lex Hemphill papers
The Lex Hemphill papers (1924-2004) contain documents and research relating to his twenty-five-year career as a sports columnist with the Salt Lake Tribune. His papers consist of documents, research files, interview notes, and legal research pertaining to the controversial issues in Utah, the Olympics, professional and collegiate sports, and environmental and wilderness issues.
Solitude Ski Patrol scrapbook
The Solitude Ski Patrol scrapbook (1967) contains collected materials regarding staff training, staff testing, avalanche preparedness, correspondence, and news clippings. Main staff for the 1967-1968 season included Dick Frost, Jim Sewell, Dean Tucker, Steve Utley, Dick Bench, John Lee, Brent Bain and Russ Schneider.
David W. Eckhoff papers
The David W. Eckhoff papers (1870s-2001) contain materials on the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics and various Utah water projects, mainly the West Desert Pumping Project. Eckhoff, a civil engineer with degrees from various California institutions, has won several awards for his engineering projects, including the 1991 Engineer of the Year award by the Utah Engineers Council.
Dick Wallin papers
The Richard Dean "Dick" Wallin papers (1964, 1973) consist of photocopies of a diary entry regarding his experience traversing Wind Rivers, Green River Lakes, and Trail Creek. Also included in the collection are two news clippings. One discusses the Alpen Bock Climbing Club, and the other discusses a mountain rescue crew of the Salt Lake Area.
James G. Rossiter papers
The James G. Rossiter papers (1964-1978) consist of Intermountain Ski Instructors Association exams, the Alf Engen Ski School teaching manual, and numerous ski articles and news clippings. Also included in the collection are materials regarding the Pocatello Ski Association and its relation to the United States Ski Association (USSA)- Intermountain Division.
Nancy Bandy scrapbook
The Nancy Bandy scrapbook (1973-1976) is titled "Rebirth of Utes Skiing" and consists of news clippings, ski results, photographs and other ephemeral materials regarding the history of the University of Utah's ski team under the direction of coach Phil Klingsmith.
Doug McLaren papers
The Doug McLaren papers (2004) consist of a press release from the Grand Teton National Park regarding McLaren's death. Also included is a compilation of songs in a booklet entitled, "Jackson Hole Ski Patrol Songs." McLaren had worked as a park ranger for the Grand Teton National Park from 1952-2004.
Promotional ski brochures collection
The promotional ski brochures collection (circa 1899-1971) was collected by Timothy Tracey. The brochures represent various resorts located in North America and Europe.
U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association records
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association records (1987-2008) contain patricipation materials from FIS (Federation De Nationale De Ski or International Ski Federation), the Olympics and other skiing and snowboard tournaments and races. It also contains media materials, event packages, and correspondence.
David Hanscom papers
The David Hanscom papers (1961-2008) contain materials and notes on the Wasatch Tours series which Hanscom co-authored. This collection also contains Olympic race materials, correspondence, Olympic Feasibility Committee materials, notes, Wasatch Citizens series materials, Utah Nordic Alliance newsletters and event materials, venue information, and ski posters and flyers.
Brad Mauss papers
The Brad Mauss papers (2000-2001) contain correspondence, notes, booklets, planning maps and drawings regarding the logistics of the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Peter S. Ecker papers [photocopies]
The Peter S. Ecker papers (1930s-1950s) consist of photocopied news clippings and a booklet regarding the Intermountain Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball and information about Ecker Hill and the 1947 Intermountain Ski Jumping Championships.
Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame collection
The Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame collection (2007) consists of a copy of the magazine Jackson Home and two posters, all autographed by skier Kit DesLauriers.
Women's Ski Jumping USA records
The Women's Ski Jumping USA records (2006-2011) consist of correspondence, fundraising materials, posters, stickers and other promotional materials. WSJ-USA is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2003 in Park City, Utah. It was created to support the rising number of elite U.S. women ski jumpers who needed financial support and strong leadership to get them into the international fold and on sport's biggest stage, the Olympic Games.
