Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Sarah Maria Mousley Cannon diary [typescript] (circa 1857) consist of an overland diary relating a journey from Philadelphia to Salt Lake City via Iowa. The diary opens with a poetic and religious description of home, but daily entries begin as the family starts along the Oregon Trail. The diary was owned by Elizabeth Silver Clawson who states it was written by Sarah Maria Mousley, later married to Angus M. Cannon.
