 File — Box: 2, Folder: 1-7

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Byron Marchant papers (1885-2017) contains writings on LDS early history. Included is a reproduction of an unpublished and published manuscript, "Sidney Rigdon, The Real Founder of Mormonism," by William Whitsitt (1885). A paper, "Mormon Exaggerations," and a transcript of a speech, "Mormonism's Connection to the British Enlightenment," both by Marchant, continue the development of the perspectives presented in Whitsitt's book. This collection also contains two pamphlets and two books. The first, "Mormon Roots," is an expansion of Marchant's earlier work, "Mormon Exaggerations," adding sections on the ancestry and psychological makeup of Joseph Smith. "Mr. Joseph Smith, Jr." is an excerpt from Whitsitt's book on Sidney Rigdon. The books in the collection represent Marchant's translation and eidting work.
