Abstract The Patrick W. McKendrick papers (1936-1939) consist of McKendrick's hand-written manuscript, as well as a typescript, describing his metal recycling project at the Salt Lake City garbage dump. McKendrick staked a mineral claim at the dump during the 1930s and began a sluice operation to recover the iron, gold, and silver left by decomposing cans and garbage.

Included are photocopied or transcribed diaries, histories, correspondence, financial records, biographies and autobiographies, and clippings from and about the Arizona settlements.

Abstract The Paine brothers mining collection (circa 1850) consists of a sketch map of the mining claims of the Paine Brothers in Nevada County, California, and a photocopy of a handwritten narrative, "In The Days Of Old And The Days Of Gold." The narrative, possibly written by Milton Paine, is a humorous short story set in the hydraulic gold mining days of California and contains a description of gold rush mining camp life.

The title page states that, "The original Reed Peck manuscript purchased Nov. 1943 from Peck's granddaughters Mabel Peck Myer and Hazel Peck Cass in Bainbridge, N.Y. by Fawn M. Brodie." The manuscript presents Peck's reminiscences of LDS Church members.
