Abstract The Patrick W. McKendrick papers (1936-1939) consist of McKendrick's hand-written manuscript, as well as a typescript, describing his metal recycling project at the Salt Lake City garbage dump. McKendrick staked a mineral claim at the dump during the 1930s and began a sluice operation to recover the iron, gold, and silver left by decomposing cans and garbage.
