Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Institute of the American West was a non-profit educational organization established in 1974. It was originally designated the Humanities Division of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities in Sun Valley, Idaho. In 1978, E. Richard Hart became director of the Institute, a position he held through 1984.
