Ethel Bennion herbarium collection
Content Description
The Ethel Bennion herbarium collection consists of one volume of dried plant specimens collected in May, 1905. Each specimen is accompanied by a written plant description which describes the structure of the plant, along with listing habitat information and where the specimen was collected. Also included is classification information providing the date the plant was collected and the scientific and common names of the plant. All plants were collected in Utah by Bennion in the following locations: University of Utah campus, Taylorsville, City Creek Canyon, and Cottonwood Canyon. Examples of some of the plants collected include dogwood, choke cherry, flax, wild onion, yellow lily, and blue violet. The volume contains a total of 25 specimens.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
The original item has been removed and placed in Reserve due to the fragility of the item. Access to the original must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the item if being used.

Biographical / Historical
Ethel Bennion was born on April 18, 1887, in Taylorsville, Utah to Samuel Roberts Bennion and Mary Panter. Ethel married Paul Snelgrove Richards on September 7, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ethel attended the University of Utah in the early 1900s. She died on December 24, 1967.
