Joseph Stead Jacobson (1913-2012) was a professor for the University of Utah's Middle East Department speacializing in Turkish studies. This collection contains 2 photographs of an event involving the Middle East Department of the University of Utah. A stamp on the back of the photographs reads: “Official Photograph. If reproduced, please give credit to U. S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 11568, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111”

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Stead Jacobson (1913-2012) was a professor for the University of Utah's Middle East Department speacializing in Turkish studies. Jacobson served in the United States Army until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1959. After military retirement, Jacobson taught at Salt Lake Community College from 1959-63 and at the University of Utah Middle East Center. Jacobson spent the majority of his teaching career translating works of Turkish literature, including from the Turkish writer Aziz Nesin.
