Scope and Contents
The O'Dell "Pete" Petersen photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 31 prints and digital-only photographs depicting outdoor activities of Petersen and the Wasatch Mountain Club, including: skiing; climbing; mountains; rocks . Folders 1-6 contain black-and-white prints that were on the wall of O'Dell's shoe shop, 9th West Salt Lake City. Folder 7 contains scans from a family album. These images were sent to the library digitally (emailed, on CD, flash drive, hard drive). Proof sheets with thumbnails of the images have been printed and placed in the folder for research purposes. The image files can be requested, but the library did not create the scan and does not have the original images.

Biographical / Historical
Christian O'Dell "Pete" Petersen was born on 1911 September 4 in Fairview, Utah to Ida and Christian Marinus Petersen. He married Edith "Pinky" Christensen on 1939 April 11. Petersen owned a shoe repair shop on 8th (later 9th) West. An avid outdoorsman, Petersen joined the Wasatch Mountain Club in 1928 and served as director, trip leader, and registrar for over 50 years. His business was a gathering place for club members. Pete's Rock, a popular climbing spot on Wasatch Blvd, is named for him. Christian O'Dell "Pete" Petersen died on 2001 October 3.
