Scope and Contents

The Diane Orr independent film collection consists of films and tapes related to Orr's career as a filmmaker. The collection includes film elements and final version of her films, such as SL-1, The Plan, The Longest War, and Lost Forever: Everett Ruess, in addition to government and other types of films she used for research, and interviews she conducted for her documentaries. Some of the Utah local station KUTV EXTRA newsmagazine episodes also reside in this collection, including unaired ones, and other KUTV documentaries and nightly news shows. This collection is partially digitized.

Biographical / Historical

Diane Orr is a documentary filmmaker and photographer whose films have explored subjects including Idaho’s 1961 SL-1 nuclear reactor accident, the 1976 Teton Dam disaster, the disappearance of Everett Ruess, and the 1973 standoff at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. Several of Orr's films document the culture and history of the American West and the issues facing Native Americans. Her photography highlights Western landscapes and rock art (pictographs and petroglyphs). Diane was also a news director at KUTV, producing segments for their EXTRA newsmagazine.
