Scope and Contents
The George Kimura digital photograph collection consists of 10 images of George Kimura in the Military Intelligence Service during World War II. These images were sent to the library digitally (emailed, on CD, flash drive, hard drive). Proof sheets with thumbnails of the images have been printed and placed in the folder for research purposes. The image files can be requested, but the library did not create the scan and does not have the original images.

Biographical / Historical
George Kimura was born in Hood River, Oregon on August 14, 1920 to Yeto Kawachi and Shintaro Kimura. He married Harriet Erickson (1926-2007) on April 15, 1944; together, they had four children. Kimura served in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). Kimura received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and Master’s degree from Utah State. He worked as a professional photographer for 30 years and was an educator at Cyprus High School for 14 years. He was vocational teacher of the year and a member of Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), National Education Association (NEA) and other organizations. He was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. George Kimura died on October 13, 2000. (Source: ”Obituary: George Kimura”, Deseret News, October 15, 2000.)
