Biographical / Historical
William Rudolph Kastelic was born on 1926 March 20 in Murray, Utah to Mary and Joseph Kastelic. Kastelic graduated from the University of Utah in 1943 and attended the University of Utah, where he was a member of the 1944 University of Utah’s basketball team. This team, nicknamed the “Blitz Kids,” won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship. Kastelic, however, did not play in the championship because he entered military service. Kastelic served in the United States Air Force during World War II. After his military service, he married Jean LaVon Shaw on 1951 February 10; together, they had two children. Kastelic graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Geology in 1958 and worked in the mining industry throughout his career. William R. Kastelic died on 2008 March 4.

Abstract
William R. Kastelic was a member of the 1943/1944 University of Utah basketball team, though he left school to serve in the United States Air Force before the team won the NCAA tournament. This colleciton contains images of the team in 1944 and images of the 1989 and 1999 reunions of the team.
