The Don C. Woodward photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 13 photographs depicting the Hill Air Force Base of Air Corps in Davis County, Utah dating from 1934. Subjects include: bi-planes, buildings, aerials of the Salt Lake City Airport and Columbia River Air Mail Route 5, ground control personnel, charts, and an officer related to air mail operations and routes.

Biographical / Historical

Don Carlos Woodward was born on April 3, 1936 in Price, Utah to Wyoma Lynn Woodward and Don Carlos Woodward. He grew up in Arizona and Nevada before settling in Provo, Utah. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Don Woodward served a mission in Finland. After his mission, he served in the Utah National Guard’s 142nd Military Intelligence Linguist Unit. Woodward graduated from Brigham Young University, where he met Julie Anne Pingree; the two married in 1962 and had three children. Both Don and Julie Ann Woodrow worked as journalists. Don Woodward worked for Desert News for 39 years, retiring from the position of managing editor in 2000. In retirement, Woodward continued to write, and in 2010 he coauthored Common Ground: 100 Years of the Salt Lake Chamber with Joel Campbell. Don C. Woodward died on September 18, 2022.

Abstract

Don C. Woodward (1936-2022) was a Utah journalist and author who served as managing editor of Deseret News. He was coauthor, with Joel Campbell, of Common Ground: 100 Years of the Salt Lake Chamber, published in 2010. This collection contains photographs of Hill Air Force Base, Davis County, Utah dating from 1934.
