Biographical Note
Jean Frances Eudey Taylor was born on May 29, 1906, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Marguerite Orr and John Edgar Eudey. John Eudey had ran a boarding house in Ruth, Nevada, near the railroad station. John Eudey struggled with alcoholism, and as a result the family moved frequently around the country, living in Ogden, Utah; San Francisco, California; and New York City, New York, before Marguerite Eudey settled in Salt Lake City with her children. As a teenager, Jean Eudey was a flapper and played accompanying piano to silent movies. In the 1920s, her mother, Marguerite Eudey, defied prohibition to brew bathtub gin.
In 1928, Jean Eudey married Frank Chase Taylor; together, they had three children. Frank Taylor died in 1948. Jean Eudey Taylor remarried to LeRoy Soelberrg in 1952. Jean Eudey Taylor was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a dedicated genealogist; in addition to compiling her own family’s genealogy, she taught genealogy classes and performed name extraction, or transcription of vital information from historic records, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jean Frances Eudey Taylor died on May 12, 1998.
