Scope and Contents

The Charlene Arrowsmith photograph collection consist of 2 boxes containing 724 color photographs, polaroids, postcards, slides, and negatives of Arrowsmith's life, family, travels, and artwork. The collection contains reference photographs of Utah scenery, landscape, animals, and flowers which Arrowsmith used for her paintings. The collection dates from approximately 1970 to 1999.

Biographical Note

Charlene Hopkins Arrowsmith (1928-2019) was born on January 18, 1928, in Provo, Utah to Leola Scott and Adelbert Blair Hopkins. On November 19, 1948, she married Duane “Duey” Arrowsmith; together, they had two daughters. Arrowsmith worked as office manager for Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 20 years, retiring in 1983. Arrowsmith was an avid quilter whose work was displayed in a juried show at the Springville Art Museum. She was also a dedicated artist, working in oil and watercolor. Arrowsmith was a plein air painter and many of her works depict the Midway and Wanship areas of Utah. Arrowsmith’s work was displayed at numerous art galleries, shows, and at the Utah State Fair and other competitive shows, and she was included in the 1999 book Artists of Utah. Charlene Arrowsmith died on November 28, 2019.

Abstract

Charlene Hopkins Arrowsmith (1928-2019) was a Utah artist specializing in plein air oil and watercolor paintings, particularly of the Midway and Wanship areas of Utah. This collection contains portraits of Arrowsmith and photographs of her family, friends, and life. It also contains photographs of landscapes, flowers, and scenes around Utah and photographs of artwork created by Arrowsmith.
