Biographical Note
Vernon Wallace Larsen (1920-2003) was born on April 13, 1920 in Monroe, Utah to Vernon Roderick and Iva Leona Conder Larsen. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Larsen served a mission in Hawaii between 1940 and 1941. Larsen attended Brigham Young University (BYU), where he met Margaret Brandley; the two married in Cardston, Alberta, Canada in 1943. He later taught sociology at Brigham Young University. Larsen received a BS and MS from BYU and earned his PhD from Cornell University in New York in 1957. Larsen returned to Utah, where he taught sociology at BYU. In addition to his work as an educator, Larsen was a poet who published several books, including Out of the Dust and Utah Poets. Vernon Wallace Larsen died on November 7, 2003, in Orem, Utah.
