Biographical Note
Margaret "Deedee" McMullen Corradini (1944-2015) was born ion April 11, 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Marie-Louise Strehlau and Horace "Mac" Martin McMullen. She grew up in Lebanon and Syria for eleven years, and then lived on the East Coast and in the Intermountain West. Corradini received a bachelor of science and a master of science from the University of Utah, and began her career in the field of public relations.
Corradini worked in numerous federal and state governments. Following service on the staffs of two Congressmen in Washington, D.C., she returned to Utah to raise her family. She married John Huebner and had two children. She also worked for former Governor of Utah, Calvin L. Rampton. Corradini became Salt Lake City's first female mayor with her election in 1991, serving for two consecutive terms.
As Mayor, Corradini was instrumental in bringing the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to Salt Lake City, and spent her eight years in office preparing the city to host the games. Her highest priority was infrastructure development. Her efforts resulted in a commuter light-rail system and redevelopment of the downtown areas, specifically the Salt Lake City Library and the Gateway Center. Corradini also returned Triple-A baseball to Salt Lake City by creating a public/private partnership for the construction of Franklin Covey Field. She served as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and has held a number of community service posts and positions on a number of Boards of Directors and Trustees, including Utah, Power and Light Co., Intermountain Health Care, Inc, and the Utah Symphony.
Deedee Corradini was a consultant specializing in business relations, government relations, and public affairs. She was a Distinguished Senior Fellow in Urban Studies at the Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics, and Public Leadership at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. She died on March 1, 2015.
