Biographical Note

Gungi Asahina (1917-2005) was born in Sugar City, Idaho on November 12, 1917 to Ichiro and Yei Asahina. Gungi moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he attended Westminster College and the University of Utah. Gungi Asahina joined the United States military during World War II and served in Europe with Company G 442nd Infantry Regiment. Gungi married Toshi “Lucy” Kadota (1921-2013); together, the couple had three children and operated the Reliable Cleaners business. Asahina was a member of the Japanese Church of Christ and Argenta Lodge No. III. Gungi Asahina died on June 19, 2005.
