Scope and Contents
The Peter S. Ecker digital photograph collection consists of 37 digital only images. Folder 1 includes images of Ecker and his family dating from 1920 to 1965 and includes family portraits, candid images, and photographs of the family boat. Folders 2 and 3 are digitized copies of the Peter S. Ecker papers (ACCN 2577) in the Manuscripts Division and include newspaper clippings about Ecker and a brochure titled "Intermountain Jumping Championships, Ecker Hill, Febuary 8-9, 1947, Sponsored by Utah Ski Club.

Biographical Note
Peter S. Ecker was born March 25, 1898 in Oslo, Norway, a son of Ole and Ingeborg Sandaker. Ecker immigrated to the United States in 1915. He married Gudrun Kaalstad on April 21, 1920; together, the couple had three children. Ecker was owner and operator of Ecker's Photo Studio for 40 years and a pioneer in ski promotion in Salt Lake City, Utah. Soon after his immigration, Ecker began participating in and promoting ski jumping tournaments outside of Park City, Utah; in 1933, Utah Governor George H. Dern named the site of the tournaments Ecker Hill. He was president of the Intermountain Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and sponsored AAU basketball teams as early as 1933. In March of 1959, Ecker was admitted to the Utah State Amateur Sports Association Hall of Fame. Peter S. Ecker died on February 6, 1967.
