Biographical Sketch
Dallas Wayne Nichol was born on October 30, 1910 and died on May 12, 1989. At 20 years old, he became deaf and needed hearing aids for the rest of his life. He was an avid skier at Alta, and helped start the Deseret News Ski School. He taught skiing for 48 years. A general contractor, he also built the Rustler Lodge and the Watson Shelter at Alta; remodeled the Alta Lodge; and worked on the ski lifts, swimming pool, and other buildings at the resort, accepting ski passes in payment. He was a friend of Alf and Sverre Engen, and met them when he was helping to pack the ski runs at Ekker Hill, where the Engen brothers were competing in a ski jumping meet.
