The Rell Gardner Francis digital photograph collection consists of 1 digital only image scanned from a black-and-white photograph by Francis taken in 1969. The photograph depicts a sculpture titled "Stoneman" by "sheepherder Artist" Lorenzo Larsen located at Parker Mountain near Fish Lake, Utah. The image is related to a 12 minute film made by Francis on 16 mm.

Biographical Note
Rell Gardner Francis was born in Lake Shore, Utah on January 27, 1928 to Barbara Ferguson and Samuel Evan Francis. Rell Francis married Janet Oaks on July 18, 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah; together, they had three children. Francis attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a BA in 1954 and a MA in 1963. He did postgraduate work at San Miguel d'Allende, Mexico, the Ohio State University, the University of Utah and the Chicago School of Design.
Francis first taught art and English before teaching photography in Paris at the European Art Academy. He served as director of the Springville Art Museum and director of the City Spirit for the national Endowment for the Arts in Springville, Utah. Francis also owned Heritage Prints in Provo, Utah, an antique photograph reproduction shop. Through this work, Francis collected and restored glass plates produced by early Utah artist George Edward Anderson. Francis published The Utah Photographs of George Edward Anderson, an illustrated catalog of Anderson’s work. He also researched the Utah artists Cyrus E. Dallin and Elfie Huntington.
