Biographical / Historical

The 1980 Winter Olympic Games were held in Lake Placid, New York. The opening ceremony for the XIII Olympic Winter Games was held on February 13, 1980, and the closing ceremony took place on February 24, 1980. The 1980 Winter Olympics took place in the same year as the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, then part of the Soviet Union. The 1980 Summer Olympics was boycotted by 66 countries, including the United States, because of the Soviet-Afghan War.
