Lynn Larsen photograph collection
Collection
Identifier: P0794
Scope and Contents
The slides in this collection are mainly documents of Hole-in-the-Rock Crossing in the Glen Canyon area. The wagon road through Hole-in-the-Rock was made by Latter-day Saint pioneers who were on their way to settle the San Juan area in 1879. From the journal of Samuel Rowley, one of the leaders of the party: "Before we could get to the Colorado River, we came to a sandstone ledge that stopped our progress. We blasted our way through this ledge, and then drove our wagons through the crack we had widened to the little canyon below." Also included in this collection are some writings of Samuel Rowley, and his daughter Alice Louise Rowley Leonard; descriptions of Hole-in-the-Rock, and identification of some of the slides in the collection.
