John William Smith was born in Draper, Utah on November 27, 1867 to Lauritz Nicolaisen Smith and Johanne Kirstine Jensen. Smith graduated from the University of Desert in 1887. He served as superintendent for schools in Salt Lake County, Utah. He was also president of the Emeritus Club of the University of Utah. He was a member of the National Society, Sons of Utah Pioneers and completed the Centennial trek in 1947. He was married to Elida Caroline Hanson; the couple had at least four children. Smith passed away in Tremonton, Utah on December 10, 1954.
Joseph V. Smith was born in Utah on March 8, 1867. Prior to his career in the insurance industry, Smith worked at Union Pacific and Salt Lake Brewing Company. He was one of the original members of the Salt Lake Association of Life Underwriters. His career at New York Life Insurance Company started in February 1905. He worked there for at least 50 years.
