Scope and Contents

The Isaac Warren Odekirk papers (1897-2009) consist of biographies, clippings, diaries, ledgers, photocopies, and transcripts related to the Odekirk family in Utah. The bulk of the collection consists of Isaac William Odekirk's original diaries. The entries discuss Odekirk's daily life, primarily in Utah, from December 1926 through April 1938. The bulk of the entries details farming activities on Chickerree Ranch and Lake Fork River in Utah. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Odekirk often expresses his faith in the entries. Transcripts of the diaries are also available. Reproductions of the diaries are included in the same folder. Also included are two account ledgers. The entries note the formation of Isaac William Odekirk and Company farming operation in 1897 and a trading post in 1900. The second ledger relates to farming operations with information about activities, man hours, horse hours, and amount in 1933.

Biographical / Historical

Isaac Warren Odekirk was born on October 2, 1896 in Vernal, Utah to Isaac William and Hanna Pace Odekirk. Odekirk married Elsa Zirker in Myton, Utah on March 5, 1922. He worked as a department store manager at S.H. Kress & Co. from 1924-1960. He served in World War I in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The couple had four children. Odekirk passed away on January 15, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was known as "Babe" throughout the Uintah basin.

Isaac William Odekirk was born on August 26, 1871 in Smithfield, Utah to Heber and Hannah Brown Odekirk. Odekirk married Hannah Margaret Pace on October 23, 1890. Odekirk was a farmer and merchant. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The couple had eleven children. Odekirk passed away on September 12, 1939.
