Historical Note

The Kamas Fish Hatchery is located on Beaver Creek in Summit County, Utah. It was built by the Utah State Fish and Game Commission as the eighth fish hatchery in the state. It began operations in 1930. Between 1936 and 1978, a number of earthen dams, raceways, and spring houses were built on the property in addition to ten buildings. The hatchery was reconstructed between 1998 and 2001 as part of Utah's Fish Hatchery Production Plan, which was implemented to increase cold-water fish populations for sport. The rebuilt hatchery was dedicated in July 2001. The expansion increased the hatchery's production capacity from 60,000 to 140,000 pounds annually.
