Biographical Note

Elizabeth Mehaffey Howe was born in Hampton City, Virginia, on March 11, 1860 to Brevet Major-General Albion Parris Howe and Elizabeth Law Mehaffey Howe. On August 16, 1893, she married her cousin, Dr. Lucien Howe (1848-1928). Lucien Howe was born on September 18, 1848, to Colonel Marshall Spring Howe and Ann Timothy Cleland Doggett Howe. Dr. Howe was an early ophthalmologist known for his two volume monograph Muscles of the Eye, published between 1906 and 1908. The two had no children. Elizabeth Howe was a writer who published Frontiersmen in 1931. Elizabeth Mehaffey Howe died on October 11, 1942, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
