The Gordon Woolley Thiriot photograph collection contains 6 boxes containing 6,335 slides taken and collected by Thiriot throughout his lifetime. The slides document Thiriot's travels, particularly in the western United States like Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Hawaii. Also documented is Thiriot's leadership of scouts groups through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The slides additionally document wilfdlowers, trees, and other native plants. The collection spans approximately 1950 to the 1980s.

Biographical Note

Gordon Woolley Thiriot (1925-2012) was born on May 25, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, ot Ernest Vernon Thiriot and Margaret Woolley Thiriot. Gordon Thiriot served in the United States Army during World War II in the European theater, particularly France and Germany. He was a graduate of the University of Utah, and spent his career working for the Utah Department of Workforce Services. Thiriot was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served as a ward clerk and a scout leader. Thiriot was enthusiastic about hiking, camping, boating. He was an avid amateur botanist with an interest in native plants and trees. Thiriot died on March 8, 2012. (Source: “Obituary: Gordon Woolley Thiriot, 1925-2012.”)

The Gordon Woolley Thiriot photograph collection contains slides taken and collected by Thiriot throughout his lifetime that document his travels, particularly in the western United States, and his interest in native wildflowers and trees, dating from the 1950s through the 1980s.
