Biographical Note

Harold Ross Brown (1886-1976) was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, on December 27, 1886 to James Henry and Leoline Woodmansee Brown. Soon after, the Browns moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where James H. Brown joined the firm of Bast, Terry and Woodruff, which ran the Troy Laundry and a haberdashery; the firm was renamed Brown, Terry and Woodruff. Harold Ross Brown went to work for Troy Laundry as a young man. In 1916, he married Norrine Thompson (1891-1980), the daughter of Ezra and Emily Pugsley Thompson. Together, they had four children: Norrine Brown “Brownie” Morris, Harold Ross Brown Jr., Janet Brown Oakford, and James Thompson Brown. Harold Brown died in 1976 and Norrine Brown died in 1980. Abstract

Harold Ross (1886-1976) and Norrine Thompson Brown (1891-1980) were prominent members of Salt Lake City society around the turn of the twentieth century. The Harold Ross Brown photograph collection contains 93 black-and-white photographs and cabinet cards depicting the Browns and their families from about 1900 to 1930.
