In 1988, she was named to the board of the Utah Arts Council, on which she served for nine years. Doris and Mitchell lived in Washington, DC, from 1969 to 1973, while Mitchell served as Solicitor of the Department of the Interior. Doris continued to be active in the community until her death on November 27, 2007.
