Biographical Note
William H. “Bill” Martindale (1906-1988) was born on November 13, 1906 in Marengo, Iowa to Dr. W.H. and Leona Martindale. He attended Drake University and Dunwoody College of Technology in Minnesota. Martindale served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges and the El Kalah Shriners.
In 1945, Bill married Carrie Bales (1908-2002). Carrie was born on October 21, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Sacara and Hannah Jenson Bales. Both Bill and Carrie Martindale worked for their entire careers at the Sears Roebuck Company, working in Des Moines, Iowa and Jackson and Detroit, Michigan, before transferring to Utah. Bill Martindale died in 1988 and Carrie Martindale died in 2002.

William H. “Bill” Martindale (1906-1988) and Carrie Bales Martindale (1908-2002) were a married couple who lived in Iowa, Michigan, and Utah throughout their lives. The William and Carrie Bales Martindale photograph collection contains photographs of the Martindales, their friends and family, their travels, and their work at Sears Roebuck Company spanning from the 1900s to 1970s.
