Historical Note
The International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers (ISDUP or DUP) was founded on April 11, 1901, in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was modeled on national lineage societies such as the Daughters of the American Revolution. The society was legally incorporated in 1925. The goal of DUP is to “perpetuate names and achievements of the men, women, and children who were the pioneers in founding Utah by: preserving historic landmarks, marking historical places, collecting artifacts and histories, establishing a library of historical matter, and securing manuscripts, photographs, and maps.” The collections focus on the geographic area of the State of Deseret and the Utah Territory before the completion of the railroad on May 10, 1869. In 1950, the DUP opened the Pioneer Memorial Museum, located at 300 North Main Street in Salt Lake City, Utah to house the artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs that they collect. The materials in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers photograph collection consists of material originally from the Pioneer Memorial Museum that fell outside the scope of their collections and so were transferred from the Pioneer Memorial Museum to the J. Willard Marriott Library Special Collections. (Daughters of Utah Pioneers, dupinternational.org)

Abstract
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers was founded in 1901 and the Pioneer Memorial Museum was opened in 1950 to house artifacts, photographs, and manuscripts about the geographic area of the State of Deseret and the Utah Territory and dating from prior to the completion of the railroad in 1869. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers photograph collection contains photographs and postcards of landscapes and people that were transferred to the Marriott Library because they fall beyond the Pioneer Memorial Museum's scope.
